- CD+G Player is a program which can play and display the graphics for
- discs in the CD+G (Compact Disc + Graphics) format.
-
- Hardware Requirements
- =====================
- • A CD+G compatible CD-ROM drive, such as the Apple CD300 or Sony CDU-561.
-
- • A Color Macintosh
-
- • A monitor with a resolution of at least 640 x 480 pixels (optional).
- (This is only needed to display the graphics in 2:1 mode).
-
- Software Requirements
- =====================
- • System 7 or 32-bit QuickDraw
-
- • Apple CD-ROM Software version 4.0.2 or later
-
- How to use CD+G
- ===============
-
- 1. First make sure you have the correct hardware and software setup. If you
- have just updated your CD-ROM extensions, restart your Mac.
-
- 2. Insert a CD+G disc in the drive. The CD+G Player works with Audio CDs too,
- but isn't nearly as fun. If the software is installed correctly, an "Audio CD"
- icon should appear on the desktop after a few seconds.
-
- 3. Double-click the CD+G Player icon to start up the program.
-
- 4. Hit the "Play" button (> ||). Enjoy!
-
- What the Buttons on the Control Panel Do
- ========================================
- Eject
- Ejects the disc.
-
- Play/Pause (> ||)
- This button begins plays the disc, if it is stopped or paused,
- and pauses if the disc is playing.
-
- Stop (•)
- This button stops playing the disc and blanks the screen.
-
- Reverse (<<)
- This button skips to the previous track (or to the beginning of the current
- track if you are more than a few seconds into it).
- If you hold the button down, it acts like a "rewind" button.
-
- Foward (>>)
- This button skips to the next track. If you hold the button down,
- it acts like a "fast forward" button.
-
- 0,1,3 etc.
- These buttons turn the 16 CD+G graphics channels on and off. Normally, you
- should leave channels 0 and 1 on. A few CD+G discs have additional
- information (foreign language translations etc.) in channels 2 through F.
-
- Zoom
- This button only works if you have a 640x480 monitor or larger.
- The button enlarges the window to full screen size, hides the cursor and
- displays the graphics in 2:1 mode. When the window is zoomed, you don't get
- a control panel. Click the mouse to revert back to 1:1 mode.
-
- What is CD+G
- ============
- CD+G is an extension of the Compact Disc Digital Audio (CDDA) standard.
- CD+G discs can be played on a regular CD player. In addition to audio
- the discs contain graphics which can be seen only if the disc is played
- on a special player which decodes the graphics and sends them to a
- television set.
-
- There are three types of CD+G graphics: "line", "tv" and "extended". The
- CD+G Player software supports only the "tv" format, which is the most common
- flavor. The "extended" format is forward and backward compatible, so these discs
- can still be viewed.
-
- Where Can I Find a Player?
- ==========================
- There are a few CD+G compatible players on the market today. For example,
- the Sega CD game machine can play CD+G discs, as can the NEC Turbo CD. A few
- companies, such as JVC, sell dedicated CD+G players, for example to play
- Karaoke discs.
-
- With the exception of the game machines, CD+G players are hard to find, especially
- outside Japan. CD+G Player was created for those Macintosh owners who have CD+G discs,
- but nothing to play them on.
-
- Where can I find CD+G
- =====================
- Pop Music CD+Gs are available in most record stores. See the accompanying file
- cdg_list.note for a partial list of them.
-
- Classical Music CD+Gs are available from Time Warner Interactive Group - there
- is a list in the accompanying file cdg_list.note. Call (800) 482-3766 or
- 818-955-9999 to order.
-
-
- Known Bugs
- =============
- On slower Macs, CD+G may have trouble keeping in sync with the disc, especially
- in full-screen mode.
-
- CD+G has been reported to crash on some Macintosh A/Vs, although I haven't
- been able to reproduce this.
